Seasonal Allergy Support

What causes seasonal allergies?

Now that spring has sprung, it is time to get ready for the inevitable rise in allergy irritants. As plants start to produce pollen for reproduction, the pollen travels in the wind - causing millions to have an itchy, and sneezing summer/fall.

Since tree pollen is so light and many trees rely on wind for pollination, trees can be the biggest offender for causing allergy symptoms.

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology the following trees have the worst tree allergens:

  • birch
  • box elder
  • cedar
  • cottonwood
  • date palm
  • elm
  • mulberry
  • hickory
  • juniper
  • oak

Another big offender for springtime allergies is grass pollen, here some common grass types that have bad allergens (according to the ACAA&I):

  • Johnson grass
  • Kentucky bluegrass
  • orchard grass
  • rye grass
  • sweet vernal grass

Tips for avoiding spring allergies

Here are some tips for avoiding springtime allergies:

  • Wear a mask when you are doing yard work. This will help minimize the allergens that you breathe in.
  • Track mold and pollen counts in your area. Many common weather channels, websites, and apps have great pollen trackers that can alert you on days you may want to avoid going outside.
  • Bathe after being outside. Be sure to change your clothes and take a shower after being outside. This will help minimize bringing pollen into your home.
  • Be prepared. Have anti-histamines, and other allergy support supplements ready to help alleviate the discomfort of seasonal allergies.
